Most inspections take 30 to 60 minutes. If the car passes, you get the certificate on the spot. If it doesn’t, we tell you exactly what needs fixing and can usually do the repairs here.

A roadworthy inspection checks that your car meets Queensland’s minimum safety standards. Our inspector works through the brakes, tyres, steering, suspension, lights, windscreen, seatbelts and body, following the Department of Transport and Main Roads inspection manual. It’s a safety check, not a full mechanical inspection, so it won’t tell you how long the engine or gearbox will last.
What if my car fails?
You get a written list of the faults and 14 days to fix them and bring the car back for a re-check. We can do most repairs in our workshop, from brakes and lights to tyres and wheel alignment, so you’re not running between shops.

Here’s a rundown of the typical inspection checklist for a Queensland Roadworthy Certificate (RWC):
- Seating and restraints (such as seat belt attachments);
- Lighting, lamps, and electrical components;
- Engine, driveline, and emissions;
- Windscreens, glass, and wiper components;
- Wheels and tyres;
- Body, chassis, and frame (including doors and moving parts);

When do you need a roadworthy in QLD?
- Selling or transferring a registered vehicle to a new owner
- Re-registering a vehicle that’s been unregistered
- Moving a vehicle onto QLD registration from another state

How long is a safety certificate valid in QLD?
For private sellers, a safety certificate is valid for 2 months or 2,000 km, whichever comes first. Certificates issued to licensed motor dealers last 3 months or 1,000 km.
Do I need a roadworthy certificate to sell my car in QLD?
Yes. You need a current safety certificate before you transfer a registered vehicle to a new owner, unless you sell to a licensed dealer or an exemption applies. Selling without one can lead to a fine of over $700.
